THE ONLY THING JESUS WAS EVER CONSUMED BY

John 2v17: His disciples remembered that it is written: "Zeal for your house will consume me."

When zeal for Jesus' house consumes us (not by our trying to work up a zeal, but His Holy Spirit giving us it!), we will not take lightly, act lightly or speak lightly towards those things which don't belong in His house. Why is this? It is because above all, our heart longs to see Jesus lifted high and exalted and only Jesus worshipped and adored. It is because we have known the power of His presence and the beauty of His love in our hearts, and we have heard His majestic voice. When we have encountered such a great God on the mountain places of His Spirit, and amongst the people that He has bought and cleansed, we will become instantly shocked, horrified and dumbstruck should anything come to share such a place with our God, or to sell such a place for profit or to make such a place something of an idol or piece of entertainment. After all, we will think to ourselves; 'can such things be?' 'will man take what is God's for Himself?' 'even to put himself in God's place?' And we will act, speak and plead with His house accordingly because of these things. Jesus did not sit back, and He did not keep quiet, not because He didn't love men, but because He loved God and loved men too much to let them be held by earthly things and those things which hold captive and deceive men. He loved God too much to let truth be sold for a price, and for men to sell Godly things for their own profit and prestige. And so it will be with all whose hearts are touched by a Holy Spirit and a Holy God who is still jealous for His people and jealous for a worship that is according to Spirit and Truth. For the more men truly know the Word, the more they shall truly know their God, and the more they truly know their God, the more they shall see the difference between the earthly and the spiritual, and the difference between true worship and idolatry. The more men know truth and hear the voices of men whom God has touched, the more they shall know the difference between their babylonian towers, and the place of prayer; the difference between the plans of men and the works of the Spirit, and the difference between their God and those that would set themselves up as priests and Kings in HIS PLACE. The reason this difference is not seen much today is because men cannot compare the two, because they have not often experienced the genuine. Their foundation has been genuine, but they have built on it according to their own wisdom and will; a hightower to heaven that will only reach into the skies of men, but that will ultimately always fail to be something heavenly because it's origin is human and not of God. One day the true and the false works will be tested by fire, and then the great reveal will be made known, and the sound of both triumph and grieving will be heard in that day. But there is still time to overturn the tables of men, to allow the fruits and buildings of His Spirit. Let our prayer be that He will do such things in our day too, that men may know the true power, presence and love of God, and not those things that men have made!
